a sobering thought

hi

please cant you do a similar report of the people on my doorstep at wolmer and danville pta and the people in kanonkop krugersdorp

these are our own people,,,maybe we should extend a hand of giving to them first

Sure thing.

I believe we were supposed to have been looking after the poor all this time, instead of just watching the squalor in which they live and moaning about how it brings down the value of our suburbs. It’s easy to say “why didn’t they” as if an angelic host called “they” would come and wave wands and all the problems in the world would go away, but it doesn’t quite work like that, does it?

Perhaps the way it ought to be done is that we should always have outreach programmes in which we (as in me myself and I) should give more than we keep, and feed more of others instead of trying out that new restaurant, and donating those old clothes instead of getting the maid to sell them for us, then only paying a small commission.

Yes, we do have squatter camps. And yes, we have spent the last x amount of years doing the best we can to secure all goods at the lowest price, and we have paid our staff the lowest wages so that we, the rich, can live off the fat of the land.

Pardon my cynicism, but I have to ask – are you making such a difference to the dignity of the people in the places you have mentioned that you can point fingers at our paltry efforts here. You are right, in that we have reacted to an emergency with attitudes that should be a daily way of life. The difference as we see it right here, right now, is that these people cannot return home for that book they forgot, or that jacket, because

(1) they will probably be killed on the way
(2) their houses don’t exist anymore
(3) they have nowhere else to go
(4) it is the citizens of this country who are doing this, and the chances remain highly likely that after they have succeeded in evicting the foreigner from this land, they will turn on the wealthy of this land, using the same tactics they found effective in these times..

A sobering thought, wouldn’t you say?
